When taking a shot at something, people have a tendency to undershoot.
Whether it is asking a girl on a date, making a joke or negotiating a deal.
We do it to soften the blow and protect ourselves in case of failure. So we can say things like “I didn’t even try that hard anyway”.
What areas of life do you find yourself undershooting in? Maybe:
You ask someone for a favor, then you immediately follow up with “it’s okay if you say no, I totally understand. I know it’s hard.”
You spend less time on your speech in fear of sounding rehearsed
You tend to under-dress
You tell the joke slowly to your close circle
You're scared of a big vision for your company
If it’s likely you’re going to miss the shot, aim to overshoot next time.
A reminder to myself.
And to everyone.
